I'm always looking for ways to make my life easy. A lot of it comes down to tricks:
- I write things down. It's amazing how much harder it is to forget if you don't even try to remember.
- I make sure I have extra supplies. For example, hypothetically, if I ate 4 eggs a day (hard to believe, I know), I would buy eggs when I notice I'm down to only a week's supply (28 eggs, about 2 cartons). That way even if there is a disaster and I can't make it (or don't want to make it) to the store for several days, I'm still OK. When I stock up, I make sure I have two weeks of eggs total. If I ever notice myself needing to do the laundry urgently, I buy more clothes. No reason to warp your schedule around your washing machine when you could just buy more clothes and give yourself a margin. Same goes for dishes.
- I make sure I have small bills in my wallet. When I go out to eat with friends I usually have enough small bills to pay my share. What I do is try to make sure I have at least 5 ones and 2 fives. If I have fewer small bills than that and I'm buying something where I can pay an exact amount, I break a twenty anyway. I try to be above 5 ones but below 10, above 2 fives but below 4.
