Going to the Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine next week. They'll run me through a series of tests whose cost I don't want to think about. Presumably they will tell me what I already know--sugar does bad things to my blood sugar, and I should eat more vegetables. So why am I going? Well, I think they may be able to help me with some more expertise than that, probably with targeted vitamins and perhaps even drugs.
I was talking to a friend who works for a subsidiary of Merck, and asked him, "how do you develop drugs?" He said they'd seen a video when he started where they basically said the pharmaceutical industry has all these random compounds, and they run all these tests on them to see what they do. Not give them to actual humans, but, say, injecting them into some blood to see what the effect is. Still, pretty scary if you ask me. Maybe I misunderstood.
