Relationships

Rita Rudner once said, "Why is it that after people break up they always want to be friends? Why can't they just go away?"

I was eating dinner with a bunch of girls (don't ask), and one of them said, "I broke up with this guy, but he keeps calling me wanting to hang out." The girls discussed this for a while as I sat in disbelief. Finally I turned to her and said, "Just stop calling him back."

A hush fell over the table.

"Oh, I don't want to do that! I want to keep him as a friend!" No comment on this one, at least not on my public blog.

So I said, "OK, just wait a while before you call him back, like maybe a week."

More hush, more glaring at evil me.

"Or 3 days."

She said, "But we went out for A MONTH."

This is where I realized there was no reasoning that could take place. After all, the two had been practically married. I fought back the urge to say, "How old are you, 15?!"
